Mechatronics engineer or precision optician?

Training Day at the Heuchelheim site was well attended with around 400 visitors.

School successfully completed - but then what? What apprenticeships are there and what does a good application look like? On the training day last Saturday, apprentices and trainers from the Schunk Group gave insights into the wide range of training occupations offered by the international technology group at the Heuchelheim and Wettenberg sites. For the first time, trainees from the optical machine manufacturer OptoTech in Wettenberg, which has belonged to the Schunk Group since 2018, will be there.

"We want to get young people excited about technical careers. This works best in direct exchange with our trainees, who organize this event themselves every year," says Steffen Friedrich, Head of Human Resources.

Insights into a wide range of apprenticeship occupations

To all those interested in technical training, the trainees demonstrated how CNC-controlled machine tools are operated and how workpieces are machined using techniques such as milling, turning and grinding. Trainers and apprentices were also available to answer questions about commercial apprenticeships.

On the "do-it-yourself course", the visitors explored the training workshop on their own - and thus easily got into conversation with the trainers. Additional information was also provided by short lectures on dual studies and correct application as well as the M+E Infotruck from HessenMetall.

Technology group is a big trainer

With a turnover of around 1.3 billion euros, Schunk is one of the largest industrial companies in Central Hessen and one of the largest trainers in the region. At its four central Hessen locations alone, the Schunk Group currently employs over 160 trainees and dual students. In addition to modern training centers and regular in-house instruction and courses, project work and excursions ensure a qualified and varied education. In addition, the company offers excellent prospects for the future: Schunk takes on its trainees for an indefinite period if they are technically and personally suitable.
