BODY & CHASSIS

Components for body and chassis – safety you don't see

In body and chassis applications, only one thing counts: absolute reliability. From steering to brakes to doors and hatches – Schunk Sinter Metals delivers quality-tested components with two complementary manufacturing processes: axial pressing for high-volume molded parts and metal injection molding (MIM) for complex precision components. Ready-to-install, precise, and designed for maximum service life.

BODY & CHASSIS

Two manufacturing processes – one point of contact

Axial pressing is the proven standard process for simple to medium component geometries in high volumes. Press forces from 30 to 8,000 kN, outstanding process stability, and economical large-scale production make it the process of choice for gears, bearings, cams, and functional components that need to be manufactured in the millions.

Metal injection molding (MIM) unlocks geometries that axial pressing cannot achieve: undercuts, threads, wall thicknesses as thin as 0.4 mm, and three-dimensional free-form surfaces – straight from the process, without costly post-processing. In series production, MIM components reach densities of minimum 96% and higher, along with mechanical properties comparable to forged parts.

Our sintered metal components for body and chassis

  • Steering: Precision components for electric power steering (EPS) systems – including rack guides, worm gears, and sensor carriers. Economical in high volumes with axial pressing, and for more complex geometries with tight tolerances with MIM. Soft magnetic sintered materials enable precise torque sensing – critical for the driving dynamics control of modern vehicles.
  • ABS brake systems: Armatures and eccentric rings for ABS pumps and brake systems made from soft magnetic sintered materials – with high switching dynamics, minimal tolerances, and proven durability. Manufactured using axial pressing or MIM depending on geometry, 100% tested.
  • Electric parking brake: Helical output gears and gears for electric parking brake actuators – manufactured with axial pressing for the highest gear quality, ensuring quiet, play-free operation in economical large-scale production.
  • Electric tailgate: Actuator components and gears for electric tailgate systems – compact, lightweight, and designed for the high cycle counts of daily use. Simpler geometries with axial pressing, more complex components with MIM.
  • Exterior mirrors & actuators: Bevel gears and output gears for electric mirror adjustment and other body actuators – self-lubricating, quiet, and precise. Economical in million-unit volumes with axial pressing.
