Digital condition monitoring of pantographs and overhead lines

Achieving the European climate protection targets in the transport sector requires a strong European railway. The EU is therefore planning to double passenger traffic and significantly expand rail freight transport by 2030. In addition to alternative drive concepts and the expansion of rail infrastructure, digitization of the rail system for more efficient use of resources is one of the prerequisites for meeting the political framework conditions.

Shaft grounding systems for industrial plants

If one of your production plants breaks down, this is associated with high costs. Damaged bearings are often the reason for expensive downtimes. The cause: parasitic currents that find their way through the rolling bearings of the plant. Shaft grounding systems can reliably remedy this situation and discharge voltages to the plant ground. But we know that many of our industrial customers still face a dilemma: This is because shafts with a wide variety of diameters are installed in the gear units of their production plants. This means high storage costs, as they have to keep various sizes of shaft grounding systems in stock for emergencies. We will show you how you can now ground a wide variety of shafts with just one system and reduce your storage costs:

Redox flow batteries: stationary energy storage of the future?

Sustainability is a top priority for the regional energy provider, and thanks to its location in sunny Breisgau in the southwest of Germany, the proportion of renewable energy flowing into Badenova's grid is high. Balancing the weather-related imbalance between energy generation and consumption, however, presents challenges for the company. In a pilot project, the company therefore tested the use of redox flow batteries. In our TechTalk with Schunk expert Dr. Hartmut Groß, Business Developer Dr. Malte Thoma from Badenova tells us what makes this storage technology interesting for energy providers, where the advantages lie compared to lithium-ion batteries, and how Schunk, as a manufacturer of graphite bipolar plates, can contribute to the development of this technology.

Injection molded parts with graphite for cooling water pumps

Regardless of the type of car, reliable thermal management is essential to operate all systems in the vehicle within the optimum temperature window. Pumps with bearings and seals are needed for the smooth transport of fluids, such as cooling water. To ensure high chemical, thermal and mechanical resistance of these components, Schunk has developed a production process for components that are not only particularly efficient and durable, but can also be manufactured in large quantities and complex geometries.

They have both always been sports enthusiasts. "For me, sports are extremely important," says Kamil Wlotzka. "Running, racing bikes, swimming - I like to be on the move." In this respect, he feels similarly to Rainer Dörrie, who used to do triathlon. The two colleagues have been in sales at Schunk Ingenieurkeramik at the Willich site for two years and work together regularly, for example when it comes to oxide ceramics. And since then, they have been out and about together doing sports every now and then.

E-mobility: how powder metal gears reduce noise, weight and costs

The continuing trend toward miniaturization and lightweight construction in the automotive industry calls for ever stronger materials and high-strength components. The shift to e-mobility is further accelerating this trend - and brings with it an additional requirement: noise reduction.

High-performance materials from the 3D printer

Introduced in 1981, 3D printing has long served to transform plastics into revolutionary new shapes. The direct and fast approach of designing a component on the computer and producing it without using a mold opened up (almost) unlimited possibilities in terms of design. Schunk has not only implemented this technology of the future with common materials, but also enables additive manufacturing using high-performance materials such as ceramics, special powder metal, fiber-reinforced composites and 3D printing of multi-component materials. In my Tech Talk with our experts Dr. Lars Schnetter, Tobias Heusel and Florian Reichert you will find out, how customers benefit from this technology, from the product idea to series and mass production, and what the state of development is.   → You can download the 3D printing brochure here!

Three reasons why depot charging reduces costs

More and more cities around the world are turning to electromobility for public transportation. Current collectors for electric buses from Schunk are already in use in over 100 cities in 25 countries. Now, with the Depot Charger SLS301, there is a new pantograph model that enables automated charging of electric buses in the depot. The advantage: although the Depot Charger is capable of high power charging similar to the standard inverted pantograph, its simple, compact and light weight design makes it an economical solution for depot charging. Find out here what advantages Depot Charging offers over conventional plug-in solutions and why transport operators can save costs with the Depot Charger SLS301:
